Physical Education: The article examines the debate over the amount of attention and funding to be given to physical education (PE) by schools in the U.S. Due to the increasing number of obese children in the country, many people assert that PE for students in kindergarten through twelfth-grade should be made compulsory through federal legislation, and high school students should be required to pass a basic set of PE courses to graduate. Due to financial difficulties, school districts have been forced to reduce funds for PE programs.

Drug Testing for Sports: The article discusses various issues concerning the mandatory drug testing of athletes in the U.S. The use of performance-enhancing drugs has been an international ethical debate issue. In order to address the illegal use of drugs in sports, professional sports organizations are conducting drug tests among athletes. A historical overview of doping in sports is also presented, along with definition of terms and phrases.

Outdoor Recreation: An overview of the issue of the outdoor recreation among youth is presented. It notes research by the organization Kaiser Family Foundation and the organization Outdoor Foundation regarding youth media consumption and outdoor activity. It is said that outdoor recreation is decreasingly popular with U.S. young people, while health problems, particularly obesity, are rising.
