Introduction

What is referencing?

Referencing is a way of acknowledging the sources that you have used in your research project.


Why do you need to reference?

By referencing your sources, you:

  • demonstrate the level of your understanding on a specific topic.

  • provide evidence of the research you have made

  • add value to the point you are trying to make.

  • avoid plagiarism. 


How can you reference?

You can make a reference to your sources with:

  • In-text citations after a:

    • Quote

    • Paraphrase

    • Summary

  • The Works Cited List (Bibliography) and the end of your work (essay, report, etc)
